New York, Fashion Capital of the World

I am not sure if I told you, but I am a huge fashion lover, I love shopping, and styling outfits together. I am a planner, and well like to plan outfits...what can I say I am well organised. Anyway I thought I would have a blog, showing my love for fashion and New York. My love for New York has mainly been because of movies and TV programs and also because of books. Here are a few fashion styles I have chosen that relate to one of my favourite books, TV programs and movies. Starting alphabetically, with Blue Bloods, one of my favourite book series, sure it is aimed at teens, but I did start reading it when I was in my teens. Followed by one of my favourite TV programs, Gossip Girl. And finally I am ending with Sex and the City. I know that Gossip Girl is based on books, but I have only really watched the TV program. I also have only watched the Sex and the City movies.

Anyway here we go:

Blue Bloods - Melissa De La Cruz
I love the Blue Blood Series by Melissa De La Cruz. I love the whole idea of vampires having a back story, a story about being fallen angels, condemned to live eternity on earth as vampires...Blue Bloods. Of course it is no vampire story without trouble and a complicated love story. Anyway, instead of turning this into a book review, here is an explanation to why I have chosen these items.
On the top left side corner, are the six books that are currently out. (Well books of the series, not the companion books) I have created outfits that I would wear to the Four Hundreds Ball and to school. The top right hand corner I have a beautiful Jenny Packham gown, with a pair of beautiful Miu Miu gold peep toe shoes and a gold clutch bag to match. With Tiffany's jewellery of course! As for the after party of the Four Hundreds Ball, there is a masquerade, here I have chosen a beautiful gold mask. Perhaps I can catch Jack Force's eyes in this drop dead, sophisticated, sparkly outfit. ;)
On the bottom left hand corner, the outfit I have picked out for school, while I mingle with the fellow Blue Blood elites at Duchesne. I have chosen this beautiful grey beige H&M dress (Which I own), It is beautiful and a perfect day outfit, with a pair of beautiful brown Louboutins and a beautiful Mulberry bag. With that outfit, I would be all set for school, though perhaps those shoes are a little too high.
My favourite item from the Blue Blood collection, has definitely got to be the Jenny Packham gown, it is absolutely beautiful, a dress I can definitely see myself wearing....not that I can afford such a beautiful dress! Also I can see the Duchess of Cambridge wearing that dress too, after all she has been seen wearing another design by Jenny Packham.
The reason Blue Bloods is in this list as,one: it is set and based in New York, after all these vampires are known as the New York Coven. Anyway, I have fallen in love with the Schuyler Van Alen and Jack Force love affair, and I want to be strolling down Perry Street to see if I can see the two love birds. Or perhaps I will go down to the Upper West Side where Schuyler Van Alen lives, right on Riverside Drive. Or to the hot clubs in town, The Bank or perhaps Block 120 ( not entirely sure these clubs actually exist) Also Mr Force lives on 5th Avenue, what more can I say? 5TH AVENUE!

Gossip Girl
I love Gossip Girl and I love the fashion in Gossip Girl, especially Blair Waldorf's wardrobe. So I have chosen a couple of outfits I would wear, as you can see they are very summery outfits, and to be honest, I love spring/summer wear. I hate wearing winter clothes, I really do.
The outfit on the left, is a beautiful vintage looking blush colour blouse, I have paired the beautiful blouse with the beautiful cream coloured skirt and a simple brown belt. With a pair of beautiful Louboutin shoes and a perfect brown Mulberry bag to match. And of course, B's signature headband, a Lipsy headband, This outfit would go perfectly while hanging around with B & S at Columbia University. On the right hand side, is an outfit, I would wear to the White Party down at the Hamptons, very cute and vintage looking.
I know these outfits are very neutral in colours, and BW is all about bold colours, but who says I am BW?
My favourite item from the Gossip Girl collection has got to be that Mulberry bag, another item I cannot afford, yet it is still beautiful.
Gossip Girl is set in New York, just like Blue Bloods, it talks about the elites. When I am in New York, I want to perhaps have brunch at the Palace Hotel, and perhaps I will spot the gang from the Upper East Side, and perhaps I will catch some drama that I can send to GG herself. I also would love to attempt to get into the numerous clubs the Gossip Girl gang manage to get in too! Even if they are underage...though I will turn 21 this year...so I can go legally! And like Mr Force, the gang live in well the Upper East Side, some down 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue.
And finally I want to go to the top of the Empire State Building! And perhaps Chuck Bass will be waiting there with flowers and an engagement ring...from Tiffany's ;)

Gossip Girl

Sex and the City
Sex and the City...who doesn't love that? Here are some outfits I would rock while hanging with the SATC girls. The outfit on the left is a simple teal blouse, with beige trousers and black strapped wedges. A perfect outfit for work, the outfit looks great with a Paul's Boutique black bag, and a cute beige floppy hat, and since this is a working girl's outfit, no writer can be without a cute vintage looking notebook and the very important smartphone. Perhaps that will be me one day, dressing like that for work!
On the right is an outfit, I thought was cute, and a little different to your average dress. A Matthew Williamson design and something I can see Carrie Bradshaw wearing, and with some Jimmy Choo Shoes!
My favourite item from this collection will have to be that gorgeous gold dress, it is absolutely stunning. A stunning design from Matthew Williamson, another dress I cannot afford, yet it is so beautiful.
Anyway I would love to go to Magnolia Bakery and perhaps go and stand outside Carrie Bradshaw's apartment. Imagining that I live there.
Sex and the City

Of course there are many movies, books and TV programs that I have watched that haven't made it onto my list. But like any other visitors to New York, I will want to visit where Friend's was set. And where the gang's apartment 'would be'. And of course have breakfast at Tiffany's! Take a stroll in Central Park, standing in Time Square yelling Yatta! like Hiro did in Heroes. Of course I will want to go shopping down 5th Avenue, who wouldn't? And visit the tourist areas, after all I am British and a girl who has dreamt about going to New York for so many years.
I am honestly quite excited with the idea of being in New York in the summer, I hope that I make some wonderful friends and perhaps we will have the same moments we all love and have seen on TV. Perhaps we will be going to a local coffee shop, where we will make it our local and being our meeting point, where we would gossip. And like all the famous girls of New York, from Mimi Force & Bliss Llewellyn from Blue Bloods, Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen, and the Sex and the City girls, Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha, perhaps we will go shopping in Barney's and Bloomingdales, mooning over items we simply cannot avoid unlike the elites from the big and small screens.
I just need to get myself a job! Come on employers please reply! Fingers cross that I get a reply soon and perhaps next time I blog I can share some good news.

  1. Wow, the way you speak so passionately about New York, really ignites my passion for Japan. Seeing you talk about the places you've seen on TV and how you want to relive those moments first hand, really reminds me of my thoughts of watching Japanese movies and drama's.

I worry a lot though. I worry about how my expectations may not be met? Years of studying a language, years of idolising a country(or city) and I could be left short changed. Doesn't it frighten you a bit too? Whenever people say this to me, I usually shrug it off with..."I'll make it what I want it to be".

Nice blog post - You fashion obsessed girl.

    1. Thanks Paul! No it doesn't frighten me at all, I know New York has high expectations, it is a big city and I know I won't be disappointed, I will make that experience in that city my own :) I am sure you can do the same with Japan! It may be a small country but it has so much different things, things you will love and hate, and you seem passionate about Japan, I am sure you won't be disappointed.
